Comments on: does the mini cooper take on premium gas?

OK, I don't know of one car company that states that they "REQUIRE" premium. it's says recommended. Yes, the BMW's and the MINI's are running a higher comperession ratio ( 10.5:1 for the Cooper S and 11.0:1 for the Cooper) and they recommend using the high octane to get better combustion, however, each vehicle BMW and MINI make all have a knock sensor, that will retard the timing to make the engine work with regular and the mid grade.
Your MINI will run smoother with the 91, and you'll sacrafice a bit of power and performance and fuel economy to save a couple of extra dollars if you use anything less than.
Personally, I've never ran anything less than 91 in either of my MINIs ( Cooper S JCW and Cooper automatic) or my BMW 325is. But the choice is yours.

Use 91 or better ONLY on any of the MINI models. If you can't afford the premium gas I suggest you look at other cars. However, you will see very quickly should you order one that its worth the extra $ for premium gas. The fun you will have...priceless

All Mini Coopers and BMW's require Premium Octane fuel as per owners manual. Using regular unleaded will only lead to poorer performance and gas mileage. BMW's are equiped with what is called a knock sensor which reduces the engine perfomance when it sees 87 octane fuel to prevent the engine from being damaged. So in the event that you put regular in your tank, as long as you dont keep doing it and fill up with super on the next fill up, you will be OK.
Ask your service advisor next time you bring in for service.
Also BMW recommends only using Top Tier Gas - see this website for more information http://www.toptiergas.com
It has to do with ethanol mixtures and fuel additives than can harm your engine.

Your engine will knock if you don't put premium in the car. A study showed that putting premium in any type of car will give you much better gas mileage. So it really saves your money in the long run.

All Mini's use premium. They have high compression engines or engines with forced induction that artificially create high compression (Superchargers or turbos).

They are NOT a sports car. They're considered a Hot Hatch.

They are also NOT made by BMW. They're made by MINI, which is a company owned by BMW. Like SmartCar is owned by Mercedes-Benz.

They use premium.
All of them. Both auto and manual.

That is because BMW makes Mini.
Mini is a luxury sporty car.
All BMW's, Mini's, Audi's, Mercedes, Lexus, Jaguar's, Acura's, Infiniti's, and LandRovers's and Porsche's require premium gas no matter what transmission or engine they have.

You should only have to buy premium if you have a high compression ratio. I don't think it would be necessary in any mini cooper.
